ICEHOTEL Jukkasjärvi
Marknadsvägen 63, 981 91 Jukkasjärvi, Sweden
Open in Google Maps →ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi is the world’s first and most famous hotel made entirely of ice and snow, rebuilt each winter from blocks harvested from the frozen Torne River. Since 1989, artists from around the globe have been invited to sculpt extraordinary Art Suites — sleeping rooms that double as immersive ice sculptures, each with a unique theme. Guests sleep in thermal sleeping bags on ice beds covered with reindeer hides, in rooms where temperatures hover around minus five degrees Celsius.
In 2016, ICEHOTEL 365 opened — a permanent structure kept frozen year-round by solar-powered cooling, allowing visitors to experience the ice rooms even in the midnight sun of Arctic summer. Beyond the hotel itself, the surrounding Swedish Lapland offers dog sledding, snowmobile safaris, northern lights tours, ice sculpting workshops, and visits to Sami reindeer herders.
Pro tip: Even if you do not stay overnight, the day visit is well worth it to see the incredible ice art installations and enjoy a drink from an ice glass at the ICEBAR. If you do choose to spend the night in a cold room, warm up afterward in the adjacent sauna followed by a traditional Swedish breakfast — the contrast makes the experience unforgettable.
