Prague’s public transport is excellent and affordable. The metro has three lines (A green, B yellow, C red) covering the city center and beyond. Trams are the best way to explore — they run frequently and cover areas the metro doesn’t reach. Buy a Lítačka card to store tickets digitally or use contactless payment on validators.
Day Trips and Regional Travel
RegioJet and Czech Railways both offer comfortable and affordable connections to Český Krumlov (3h by bus), Kutná Hora (1h by train), and Karlovy Vary (2h by bus). Book RegioJet in advance for complimentary drinks and snacks on board.
Tips
- Prague uses Czech koruna (CZK), not euros. Cards are widely accepted but carry some cash for small purchases
- Validate your transit ticket before boarding — inspectors issue on-the-spot fines of CZK 1500
- Tram 22 is a scenic route through the city, passing Prague Castle and Malá Strana
- Tap water is safe to drink throughout the Czech Republic
- Many restaurants add a cover charge (couvert) of CZK 30-50 per person
