Mid-May to early October only; weather-dependent (~50% of days)
Best time: Book 6+ months ahead; June-July most reliable for weather

A pyramid of rock 11 km off the Kerry coast where Christian monks built a settlement of beehive stone huts on a ledge 218 metres above the Atlantic, between the 6th and 8th centuries. Reaching the cells means climbing 600 unprotected stone steps carved by the monks themselves — no railing, exposed wind, sheer drops.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Star Wars filmed the final scenes of The Force Awakens and several scenes of The Last Jedi here, which has been a mixed blessing for visitor pressure. The OPW limits landings to ~180 people per day.

Pro tip: even when boats sail, they don’t always land — sea conditions can force a non-landing eco-tour instead. Book early, build a flex day into your Kerry itinerary, and don’t go if heights are an issue.
