Rainbow Mountain
Vinicunca, Cusipata, Cusco Region, Peru
Open in Google Maps →Vinicunca, known as Rainbow Mountain, is a geological wonder where layers of mineral deposits have painted the mountainside in stripes of red, yellow, green, and turquoise. At 5,200 metres elevation, itβs a challenging but incredibly rewarding day hike from Cusco.
Discovered by tourists only after snow melted in 2015 due to climate change, this multicoloured peak has quickly become one of Peruβs most photographed natural attractions.
Pro tip: Acclimatise in Cusco for at least 2-3 days before attempting this hike β the altitude is serious. Bring coca leaves or candy for altitude sickness, and dress in warm layers. Start as early as possible.
