Best time: Weekday mornings for fewer crowds and better photo opportunities

La Boca is Buenos Aires’ most colourful neighbourhood, famous for its brightly painted corrugated-metal houses and the open-air street museum of Caminito. Tango dancers perform on the cobblestone streets while artists display their works on every corner.

This working-class neighbourhood, originally settled by Italian immigrants, is also home to La Bombonera — the legendary stadium of Boca Juniors football club, one of the most passionate in the world.

Pro tip: Stay on the main tourist streets around Caminito and don’t wander too far into the surrounding neighbourhood. Visit during daytime only and keep valuables out of sight.
