Best time: Sunset for the most magical atmosphere

The Malecón is Havana’s iconic 8-kilometre seafront promenade — the living room of the city where Cubans gather to socialise, fish, play music, and watch the sunset. The crumbling pastel facades of the buildings lining the seawall create one of the most photogenic scenes in the Caribbean.

At sunset, the entire stretch comes alive — musicians play son cubano, couples sit on the seawall, classic American cars cruise past, and the sky turns golden over the Gulf of Mexico.

Pro tip: Walk the Malecón from Old Havana towards Vedado during golden hour. Bring a bottle of rum and join the locals sitting on the wall — it’s the most authentic Havana experience.
