Best time: June-September for hiking, December-March for skiing

Lake Louise is Canada’s most photographed natural wonder — a turquoise glacial lake framed by towering snow-capped peaks. The impossibly vivid colour comes from glacial rock flour suspended in the meltwater, creating shades of blue and green that look almost unreal.

Banff National Park surrounding the lake is a paradise for outdoor lovers, with world-class hiking trails, wildlife spotting (bears, elk, mountain goats), and the stunning Icefields Parkway connecting to Jasper.

Pro tip: Arrive before 7 AM in summer to get parking at Lake Louise — it fills up incredibly fast. For the best photo, hike the Lake Agnes Tea House trail for elevated views over the turquoise water.
